The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail premiered this week on Comedy Central. It's a stand up series starring Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani and take place each week in the BACK of Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. Not the prettiest place in the world.

This project was a challenge. I needed to turn the space into a realistic looking home for the tv series but it couldn't look too "tv" or like a stage for a variety show. The art direction had to feel like it was already there.

We designed a mural that looked a comic book version of the existing space and built out from there, adding 3D elements of the mural and LED lighting to illuminate it for broadcast. We added brick, conduit, hanging bulbs and a dark drop ceiling to give the effect of being in a basement, a creepy comic book version of a basement to be exact...

The Meltdown airs Wednesdays at 12:30 after my OTHER show @midnight!
